A fourth-generation New Yorker, Matthew was born on the Upper West Side, and spent much of his childhood in Larchmont. He went to Harvard College, and majored in Visual and Environmental Studies, focusing on architecture, design, and photography. He continued his studies in photography at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, enrolled in its MFA program.

Matthew started his career at the Museum of Modern Art, working in the esteemed department of painting and sculpture. After that, he worked as a graphic designer specializing in nightlife and entertainment flyers and invitations in the heady club era of the early 1990s. He was a co-founder of the seminal Chelsea-based nightlife and entertainment magazine HX, and he ran the company that published it from 1991 to 2009. He received his Real Estate License in 2010 and began selling properties, while also helping to establish and run AlphaBetterCare, a primary-care and HIV medical practice. In addition, he took on some exciting interior design projects.

Real Estate became Matthews main focus soon after, and he eventually got his Broker license and became a partner. He has always been peripatetic, moving over 20 times in the city alone. That experience has given him a true appreciation for many different neighborhoods in New York, and he treats each clients home buying or selling transaction as a journey and an adventure! An avid French Bulldog lover, Matthew adopted Hazel, a sweet rescue pup, after losing his long-time best friend Rocky in 2021.
